My favorite evo of the bunch. This evo actually went 10.0 on a bone stock block and head. But that type of accomplishment obviously doesnt happen for everyone.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jvdmzSViDY

The list goes on and on. I am not sure where you guys are getting your information but 10s or 500hp on a stock block is nothing special. It happens often. I local racer was making 615hp on pump and meth on the stock motor which never blew up. And like i said my boy ran 10s on pump and its a daily driver.

The 4g63 when built correctly can handle a lot more than people think. Even on stock pistons and rods. I do not consider the evo a sports car because I just don't know any other sports cars with 4 doors but for what its worth, its a great car. And I stand by my claim, that you break more shit on the evo or any car for that matter due to driver error. That point is escaladed when you are talking about drag racing. The car will not just randomly break a tranny or transfercase just because it wants to. And if something like that does happen then its certainly in the minority in the evo world. Because for every evo that goes down because of a tranfercase problem, another evo puts a stock transfercase in the 10's or 9's.

But again I have no knowledge of those domestics or how they perform, I havent even sat in a c6 much less work on one so I can not comment on what is actually better, but for a nice cheap street car. You can't go wrong with an evo.

I'm with Harry on this. The debate can go on forever. In the end, Who the hell cares Laughing

~back to work~

Thanks for the post. You gave it much more energy than I was willing to go at that point. Unlike them, I was willing to do a small search before I opened my trap. I posted a link to a "600hp" stang and showed proof that it wasn't getting there for $1000. There's no doubt that we can buy 89 fox-body coupes and throw a 200shot of spray into them to get them going for cheap, but I think we've all been there and done that. My coupe was at the track on a 175 hit in 1996--- Got boring quick. I've had 5 mustangs already-- none of them handled anywhere near the evo. I speak from expierience, not from a pair of pom-poms.

And it's funny to me how the prices are sooooo cheap for a stang and sooooo pricey for an evo.

The op to this thread was inquiring about a car bought recently for $16,000. The car came with cams, intake/exhaust, boost controller, and a flash. More than enough to run low 12's to high 11's depending on the driver. (it's his first stick shift car by the way),,,, oh yeah and I forgot-- an exeddy twin disc clutch.

Last time I checked, there was no such thing as a 'stock' used mustang either. "Average joe" who buys these cars modifies them, and a smart consumer buys a used car that was well taken care of with some decent mods already.

Average modded evo's are going from 15-23k depending on mileage.
Cobra svt's are 18-25k.

I don't think anyone buys a 25k+ car to rip apart and build into an 8second car, but I guess that's just my opinion.

Drive trains for a DSM are not as expensive as they used to be, you can now buy a Dogbox for a DSM for $2,800 beans...How much did you pay for your Mustangs trans?

Also a Shep spec Bushur bottom end cost around $5-6k off the shelf parts with filled block, add another 2k for a head and your at $7-8k for a long block that can run 7's and make 1000hp

I just happend to open up a Summit catalog that doesn't have the "best of the best" parts and I see long blocks going for $14-15k Shocked I can't imagine what the "best of the best" long blocks for a stang cost?

$15k?!?!?! WTF are you looking at? The Rip-Me-Off section? MY longblock did not cost $15k and I have bought the best of the best from top to bottom.. Hell it didnt even cost 2/3's that and as I said its 2500hp capable.. Open up the Summit catalog again and look at the 351w stroker section.. Looking at it? Good.. Now you will see a complete 393 stroker kit with your choice of CR for $995.. Add a junkyard 351w block out of an old ass bronco for $150 and youre looking at an 800+hp capable shortblock for under $2k after machine work.. How much power you want to make is up to the head and cam package you select but figure with a standard set of aluminum heads and a nice cam you will realistically see 450-500rwhp before the turbo..

And if you think an $8k filled block and off the shelf parts are needed to make 1000hp then bro.. You need to come back to reality.. And if you trusted Miller to do your motor with off the shelf parts.. Then I HIGHLY suggest you have the entire motor looked at BTW (PM me if you wanna know details)

You asked about my tranny.. I bought a 2000hp tranny.. I paid $3k for it.. A Dogbox tranny is $2800 for the gearset.. How much to assemble it? As I understand it, it's another $1000.. so now we are at $3800 and we havent touched anything else in the transmission yet.. Then we still have the clutch and transfer case also.. If I wanted a 1000hp transmission for the stang it would of cost me $1500 from a good shop.. But I opted to go 2000hp reliable and paid more from them.. Driveshaft is $500, axles are $500, tires are $1800 all around, $1000 for a built to the hilt 8.8 (I know someone on here who I believe paid way less for theirs Very Happy) oh and a good converter for the tranny is $800.. We are at $6k for an 8 sec capable roller.. This is with new parts.. Let me go and find these new/used and ill build it for $3k maybe less..

In the DSM world when you talk 1000hp driveline put $10k into that before converting to the solid rear or buying tires..

Ill keep standing by my statement that bang for the buck the Mustang wins hands down.. EVO's and DSM's may be cheap to modify in the beginning.. When you start talking serious numbers the cost SKYROCKETS well past it..

Whew,,, you said a mouthfull!! heheheee

But add this to your calculation,,
mike@awdmotorsports went 8.9x's with 784hp,,, So why do evo's need 1000hp when our cars are 700lbs lighter?

ricky@toplevel went 9.5x with a stock block, stock head, 37r combo (just cams, pistons and rods with arp harware)... 714hp

To put a metaphor on your "500lbs benchpressing juicehead" getting tapped out by a "150lbs brazillian Gracie jiu-jitsu schooled mma fighter",,,,,,,,,,

"Power is nothing without control."

By the way,,, do you really think ford's are cheaper than chevy's to make power?

For the billionth time Miller DID NOT build my block...

I was qouted 2800 for a dogbox setup from Chris at dogbox last week.

I forgot to ask John Shepherd while I was on the phone with him today how much his long block runs, I will ask when he calls me Monday. Wink

Nothing crazy about his bottom end

Don't let a few youtube videos get you all riled up. You dont need an amazing suspension setup or gumballs on an IRS cobra to crack out some 60 foot times that would make the average evo owner shit a brick.

Evo's are a nice bang for the buck. But if you guys are seriously arguing getting an Evo over an 03-04 Cobra is a better idea as far as bang for the buck or performance goes.........no one spends only 1-2 grand on either of these cars.

Matter of fact, you guys shouldnt be bringing up the xxx power under xxxx dollar discussion. This isnt grassroot's racing. If you cant afford to mod your car, get a better fucking job.

That is all.

You guys think Shep is really telling you what he is running.

You guys think a DSM can make 1000 WHP and hang witha WHP 1000 Mustang.

The IQ just halved for the entire board.

Its plain physics. a 4cyl will work twice as hard as an 8 to do this. In the end a 1000 WHP DSM is no where streeable. Interiors dont make a car streetable. Emissions, bumpers, 3-4 hour driving traffic, AC, radio and getting your c*ck sucked makes a street car.

He tuned my boys evo he bought from TOPLEVEL and my boy claims to be throwing down 400 to the wheels from just putting the stock evo9 turbo, reflashing the ecu, changing the intercooler and the piping and using a borache (or something like that) intake filter and cams. personally i doubt u can put down that much to the wheel on JUST that but i want to see numbers.

I am emabrassed to say, that guys like Shep, Rau, Marco, myself have spent $150K easily. I am not fast as those guys, but I hope one day.

Things break, things get upgraded, things just cost money. Shit Dennis spent 30K and was no where near finishing his White 2G. Wake up guys. It looks nice on paper, but that is about it.

Coz spent like 70K on his.

lmao @ getting head in a 1000hp DSM.
Gary who ever said anything about making a 1000hp dsm streetable lol
and who ever said a 1000hp dsm will be as fast as a 1000hp mustang? Dennis mentioned wanting to build a 1000hp DSM that is all.
Shep List what he has in his motor on his website I'm sure there are little secrets of his own but for the most part off the shelf shit.

Anyone realize that a 1000hp mustang makes like 800ft/lb of torque vs maybe 500 for the 4cyl. Google kiggly racing, he has one of the more efficent dsm's out there, a/t fwd, ran low 9's with less than 600hp.

Gary,

Don't bother. nyccdsm.com has been offically www.clubpicnic.com for a long time, 'cause the only thing that the members show up for is picnics. And for an equally long time, I tried to encourage people to "race" but everyone has been buillding and theorizing for so many years, that nothing actually gets done.

Then.... magically, when something finally get's done, it takes 5 years to do. That's not racing or hobby, that's just wasting eveyone's (including their own) time. With the exception of a very, very, very few people who post here, countless arguments later, about which car, and what tune, what weight, what turbo, and still nobody is at the track.

Here are some more name ideas:

www.allwedoistalkandnevergoracing.com

www.whygoracingwhenbenchracingiseasier.com

www.racingforrealcoststoomuchsotalkingismoreefficient.com

www.sometimesiracemyfriendinthebackyard.com

www.I'vebeenBuildingMyCarfor27years&nextyearItwillbedone.com

www.accordingtotheinternetmycarisfasterthanyoursonline.com

I could go on, but there's no point!!

Hey clubpicnic.com whining assholes, when was the last time you had a club BBQ at your house, at a park near you where you brought everything then collected money, or organized one where everyone brought something so you didnt have to charge?

yep, my place. One picnic per month from now on. Here are the rules-

1. show up for picnic instead of going to etown, pocono, limerock, or any other track.
2. bring some beer.
3. tell everyone how fast your car is once it's finished next year.
4. then talk shit about other cars that you have no clue about.
